Weekly Photo Challenge – Numbers

Standard

Sagrada Familia Cathedral, Barcelona

On the facade of the wonderful Sagrada Familia, Gaudi’s Cathedral in Barcelona is this ‘Magic Square’. All the numbers will add up to 33, the age that Jesus is supposed to have been when he died.

In squares of order 4 where the numbers run sequentially from 1-16 the magic constant (the sum of a single line, row or diagonal) is 34, but Subirachs’ square does not contain the numbers 12 or 16 (see image, above). Instead, 10 and 14 are included twice, making a magic constant of 33, the age of Jesus Christ at the crucifixion. Wikipedia
For me Barcelona was a constant joy, the exuberance and artistry of Gaudi is everywhere. This Cathedral made me cry just to stand there and.see it was a privilege.
