A well worn footpath. Hundreds, if not thousands of years old. Coming down the Kirkstone Pass in the Lake District, Cumbria. The highest pass in the Lakes. We had come up The Struggle from Ambleside, paused at the Kirkstone Inn at the top then headede gently down towards Ullswater. I took Mum for a long weekend in 2009, I didn’t know then that we probably wouldn’t be doing anything like this again. We stayed in a nice hotel and had 3 course dinners served by waiters. There was ‘entertainment’ in the evenings of lounge singers and quizzes. On this day we had an old fashioned drive like people used to do on Sunday afternoons. It was a gentle way to see the Lakes with lots of breaks for cups of tea and meals. I have a photo of mum smiling at this stile.she was so happy to be there.
